Maia and Shaun

Maia got books in the mail today! Two Shaun the Sheep books, with love from Tita Christine in Sydney, Australia. As school doesn’t start till July Maia has quite a bit of time to read, and what more fun to read than one of her favorite stop-action characters.

Shaun is a sheep who doesn’t follow the flock - in fact, he leads them into all sorts of scrapes and scraps, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow.

Shaun and his pals run rings around their poor sheepdog Bitzer, as he tries to stop the Farmer finding out what’s going on behind his back.

Every day brings a new adventure for Shaun - a stray cabbage bouncing into the field turns into a football feud with the Naughty Pigs.

And here’s the girl who looks so demure in this video. You wouldn’t even dream she can be a screaming banshee if she wants to be. I’m keeping THAT video under wraps. Maybe I can blackmail her with it when she’s older.

And the winners are …

500 Credits!

1. Strawberrygurl.com - Tin, since this seems to be the only site you have with the EntreCard on it, I linked to this. You’re first because you have the cutest under 2-year-old little girl in the world. Hehe, that’s the kicker.

2. Blogcebuworld.com - Laz, because you’ve always been supportive of my blog ever since we crossed paths on the Internet, and because you seem indefatigably attuned to your blogs.

3. Points of View (Discussion Blog) - Mel, because you made the effort and because you look like you’re going to be in the blogosphere for a very long time.

My precious three winners get ONE MONTH exposure as you see them now and 500 EC Credits each.

I am also retiring this contest, and will perhaps resurrect it when someone tells me it was a rather good idea that didn’t quite get off the ground.

Sowing the seeds

Back when I was in grade school there was a program that the government launched called the Green Revolution. Simply put, the Green Revolution encouraged everyone—whether they were city dwellers or those who lived in the suburbs and provinces—who had a plot of land to plant vegetables. Schools were especially enjoined to do so, as they were the most likely to have Garden Planters available to cultivate. This was a two-pronged effort to augment the family or school’s table with produce grown with the residents and students own hands.

The movement progressed to such lengths that even areas bordering drainage canals were cultivated, with or without the use of a garden planter. City residents made use of such limited space that even their Window Box Planters sprouted tomatoes and spring onions. City and provincial schools had as many two by six plots planted to pechay and ampalaya (bitter melon) as they did decorative shrubs in Indoor Planters. Households in the provinces where there was more land available to till yielded homegrown crops that allowed them to save on the food budget.

I regret that such a planters movement has become almost impossible to implement in today’s setting. Urban space that used to be available for planting is now more often used to build makeshift houses for people who have come to the city to try their luck. People everywhere seem more prone to pouring cement on a piece of land instead of pouring fertilizer for crops. And all of a sudden I am reminded that there is no more fertilizer and because of that there are no crops.

Not anymore.

The accidental geek redux

I’ve lost track on how many times I’ve tried to make something out of our Top Level Domain kusangpalo.com. Once it had been a Joomla site offering services for something that Sam and I do as a homegrown business. We offered services for domain name registration and web design and hosting, including creating presentations burnt on mini-cd’s which can be given away as promotional products. Then it became a Joomla tips site and then it became just a jump-off point for either Sam’s or my blog.

Do I.T. Yourself

I don’t remember if it ever got PR in its previous incarnations, and I wasn’t that keen on it then. But now I figured since it was there I might as well put it to good use.

There’s stuff I do at work that I can’t talk about because of NDA’s and such, but I’ve always felt that life as an IT worker leans more on the interesting side. That’s what I plan to accomplish with Do I.T. Yourself, show the perky side of I.T. life from the point of view of an accidental geek.
