Sick leave

It was weird really, I woke up feeling OK but I did feel a bit woozy last night getting off work that I asked a co-worker if I could hitch a ride. Went to sleep almost immediately after I got home, got up when Cris got home and then went back to sleep again. This morning in the middle of breakfast it hit me. I broke out in a really cold sweat so I got into bed and covered up and as a result I ended up with sweat drenched blankets. My feet are still cold up to now. I think it’s time we got one of those digital sphygmomanometers just to be sure we do a correct reading.

I’d called in sick but I had to stay on the phone for several minutes to support one of our tech guys at a client’s site. And to check my email. And to chat with a client for a few minutes. And check on the web guys. I had to remind myself I was sick after a while, shut off my email and curl up with a good movie. I fell asleep well into the first half hour.

My guess is it’s just one of those asymptomatic fevers that hit you when the weather’s haywire. It’s not mesothelioma or swine flu or something like that. I may have tired myself out with the three day of dropping by the CCP complex for Aliwan Fiesta 2009. I’m drinking a lot of water and getting some rest. See y’all later :)

I went to the Aliwan Festival 2009 celebrations at the CCP Complex early this morning to shoot a few, and here’s what I caught.

Missing her best friend

For some reason, Maia woke up very quietly this morning. And for a time she would not talk to anyone, nor give in to any treat we proposed. She just lay on the sofa with a sour face, and when I asked her if there was anything she wanted she just shook her head. She didn’t want breakfast, she didn’t want milk, no water with ice, not even the computer.

Then I asked her if she was missing Ate Bebing, who she always referred to as her best friend. She nodded, and almost started crying, but then I told her that we were going out in a while to get Ate Bebing’s ticket so she can come back to us. That made my little girl smile. Actually I had really planned to get the ticket today, it was just a good thing it cheered Maia up as well.

So off we went to the 2GO outlet at SM Sucat, where a ticket from Iligan to Manila cost a little under P2,000 including travel insurance. Not bad, I thought, since the ticket going to Iligan cost a little over 2K. This is the longest time Ate Bebing’s been on holiday, but I am glad to report we suffered no ill effects like the other year when she went home for a couple of weeks on Christmas. No hunger strikes this time, and no stomach flu.

Maia and I must be getting older and more mature :)

A gadget a (pay)day

Finally got to go to JT Photoworld, one of a few photographers’ havens in Makati City. Was there to get a monopod, hopefully to aid my shaky hands take better pictures (read: not blurry). Quite a few monopods were on sale, but I decided on the Velbon Ultra Stick 50. This model is so compact it can fit nicely inside my everyday knapsack (with the camera and the laptop).
Maia at JT Photoworld I had to bring Maia with me because Ate Bebing is still on holiday, and so am I sort of, working from home where there is no air conditioning (ang iniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit grabeh), reminds me of the summer of 2005 when we first moved back here. It was so hot that my sweat was drying up into salt as I sat in front of the electric fan.

So the monopod is my gadget for this payday. I had planned on getting one every month. I’ve already acquired a circular polarizer, a remote control for the shutter, and a reverse adapter ring for doing quick but backbreaking macro shots. Am still waiting for the 10x macro lens I got on eBay. I would like to get a Fader ND filter, which would be a lot better than the stackable ones, but at US$45 it’s still a bit too rich for my gadget a (pay)day project.
