Model Shoot
Tried my hand at portraiture last Saturday. At first I really wasn’t sure if this was my cup of tea, because I’d really rather take pictures of people I know when it comes to portraits. I guess I was in for a surprise.
I like photowalks mostly because of the all the walking I get to do. Since diet supplements are out of the question for me, all that I can do to keep more or less fit is to walk. For a commuter like me walking has given me a new set of eyes, and I am able to see things much differently than the times when all I am concerned with is getting from point a to point b.
Saturday was a different story: we went for a photowalk AND had models to shoot as well. Donna, Edz and Gugle were starting out and needed to build their portfolio. The D60KREW were all newbies and needed to learn how to shoot portraits and models outdoors. It was a healthy exchange deal, courtesy of our leader Andy Rodriguez.
More of my output from the shoot here.
Shooting Laguna
A couple of weekends ago the D60KREW went on a Laguna expedition. Fifteen Nikonians all armed with D60′s stomped across several cities in the southern province to take pictures, learn from each other and discover the wonders that our cameras can help us make. Most of us stuffed ourselves in a non-aircon van (not the best of travel deals but it was really affordable). We made stops at Calamba, Los Banos, Makiling, Nagcarlan, Pila and Liliw.
Worldwide Photowalk
I’m registered in the QC Leg headed by Dan Pagulayan. I’m going with my mentor Rolly Magpayo to shoot the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife, which I will visit for the first time on Saturday, when the Photowalk starts.
The Worldwide Photowalk is being held simultaneously worldwide and in several cities in Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines, so don’t be surprised if you see a bunch of people with cameras hanging down their necks walking around your area

Photo of the Day

Exactly a week ago I promised myself to take at least one good picture a day. I needed practice, for sure, after all that I had learned and am still learning about photography. These days I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to shoot, where I see light and shadows and color, which is of course everywhere. Having a camera and knowing how to use it gave me a whole new way of seeing things, and I wanted to make the most of that by coming up with at least one good photo a day.
Sometimes it’s quite easy to spot a good shot. Sometimes I need to do something extra. Sometimes it just lands on my lap just begging for me to take it. I’ve been lucky, I guess.

Today’s photo was taken inside the Orange Tree Coffee Shop, a small nook that I found, quite by chance, on my way back to the office from an early afternoon meeting. They have very good chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and fantastic brewed coffee. They’re at the back of the row of middle eastern restaurants at the corner of NS Amoranto and E. Rodriguez, in Quezon City.
If you like you can go through the Photo of the Day album I have on Facebook, and most of those photos are also in my Flickr account.
