I just realized that other than the frequent migrations our house has been undergoing in the past several years, a forced obsolescence has been put on most of our furniture. Simply put, if we can’t use it in the new place, we don’t ship it or take it with us. It either gets sold or is given away to an interested relative or friend.
Now the other thing I have noticed is that computers and the Internet has had a big hand in making some of the furniture obsolete, cd racks, for instance. Now that all of our music is in digital format, stored in external drives and soft CD pockets, retaining or buying a CD rack is no longer necessary. In this instance, the digitizing of music has allowed us to reclaim valuable floor and table space 🙂
