While employers liability insurance may be mandatory in some of the United States, I’m not sure if such a thing is already offered to companies, especially those that offer IT offsite installation. I would suppose companies here in the Philippines who do not have them simply put the perceived risk on top of the overhead, which may increase total project cost.
Nowadays, fresh young graduates eager for their first job just sign off on the contract and do not make sure if insurance will be offered in case they’re sent offsite, especially in places where security is critical. While there may be items like all-expenses paid, generous per Diem, the opportunity of travel to places yet unvisited, most of us throw caution to the wind and sign our months and years away.
My advice to young kids on their first traveling assignments? Make sure you’re insured.
