I really do not think much of Halloween celebrations from a Filipino point of view. First of all there is no such thing in Philippine history to justify the dressing up of kids as goblins, skeletons and vampires. Although for purposes of costuming I wouldn’t mind seeing a kid in horse riding apparel.
It’s just that I am of the opinion that Halloween in the Philippines is a mere product of American capitalism and Pinoy consumerism, which devours anything and everything American. To be fair to the average Pinoy we have also become consumers of Asian pop culture, with almost every other kid on the block knowing nobade nobade bachu and gangnam style.
We, the immediate family, will be spending All Saints Day and All Souls Day, hopefully and quietly at home.
