Missing my bicycle

Biker Boy

Auto insurance quotes have never been much of a concern for me as I have never owned a vehicle. Well, not a four-wheeled one anyway. Years back I did drive a motorcycle, and a scooter, sometime around 20 years ago. While I never got insurance for either of those vehicles, I also remember having a lot of fun driving them, even with the few mishaps I’ve had on the road.

What I do miss most is my bicycle. I think if I hadn’t gone into photography as a hobby I would probably have bought myself a bicycle for Christmas. Especially so because I need the exercise and I need to lose weight.

Now that we’ve completed the requirements the insurance company needs for the flood repairs that our house needs, it should only be a matter of time before we can start reconstruction work on the house. One of things I’m looking at are industrial handles to replace the puny ones on the cupboards and cabinets in the kitchen. Industrial handles are usually shaped like a U of some kind. The idea is to have a strong, securely attached device that won’t slip out of your hands easily.

I find that especially useful in the kitchen, where I tend to grab on handles with hands wet from the kitchen faucet. Wouldn’t that be nifty to have in the kitchen?

The best acne treatment is still post processing with either Picasa 3’s retouch tool or Adobe Photoshop’s clone tool :)

I have friends from all over who really like having their pictures taken, I’m sure you do as well. When the person typically has a smooth complexion and then grew a zit overnight, it’s easy to magic it away with post processing. I don’t consider that cheating, since most of the time the person does have flawless skin. Digitally removing a pimple from a photo taken of that person is actually restoring that person’s face as we usually know it.

I had to marvel at the way beautiful products move around the world when I saw the wikipedia entry on porcelain tiles.

The illustration on the page showed Hand-painted Chinese porcelain tiles on the floor of a Jewish synagogue in Cochin, Kerala, India. Now isn’t that an interesting mashup of culture!

The wiki goes on to state that:

Large scale production of porcelain tile is undertaken in many countries, including the United States, China, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey and Spain.

One of the latest practices for porcelain tiles, especially in restrooms, is to coat them with ultra-durable, water-based urethane. This can greatly enhance the appearance of the tile, while also providing a complete seal over the tile and grout surface making it very easy to keep clean and protected from penetrating stains and odor-causing bacteria.
